Riverhead woman airlifted to Stony Brook following crash with garbage truck in Mattituck

A Riverhead woman was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital yesterday for treatment of injuries after her vehicle collided with a garbage truck in Mattituck, Southold Town Police said in a press release this morning.

Police said Paola Moore, 41, was driving eastbound on Old Sound Avenue in Mattituck Wednesday morning when she struck the rear of a garbage truck exiting a driveway. Moore’s vehicle then left the roadway and struck a building on the north side of the road, police said.

The garbage truck, operated by Mattituck Environmental, was driven by Scott Keyser, 63, of Flanders, according to the police report. Keyser was backing out of a private driveway onto Old Sound Avenue when the accident occurred, police said. He was not injured, according to the report.

The Suffolk County Police Motor Carrier Safety Unit responded to the scene to inspect the garbage truck, which was released to its owner. The accident is being investigated by the Southold Town Police Detective Division. The incident is considered non-criminal at this time, police said.
