A Six Flags Over Georgia employee died from injuries sustained in a “tragic automobile accident" Sunday night, authorities said.

Cobb County Police officials said Andrea Crook, 43, "was ejected" from a 2004 Ford Econoline cargo van and hit her head on the pavement of an employee-only access road on park property, according to a statement obtained by PEOPLE.

Both the park and local first responders treated Crook onsite before she was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where she later died from her “severe, life-threatening” injuries, officials said.

Atlanta news station WSB-TV reported that Crook was one of several employees, including two minors, transported in the back of the cargo van driven by Asia Hendricks, 27.

According to the The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the police’s initial investigation found that Crook fell out of the rear doors of the vehicle and subsequently hit her head on the pavement when it drove through a left uphill curve on Harbor Way.

"It's a cargo van, so there are no seats back there. At some point, making a maneuver in the park, one of the passengers was ejected from the van and sustained serious severe head trauma," said Cobb County Police Sgt. Wayne Delk, per Fox 5 Atlanta.

Authorities did not state exactly how Crook fell.

Fox 5 Atlanta reported that the driver may or may not face charges. "Investigators are looking at several different factors to determine what charges would be appropriate, but yes there's definitely a potential for charges," Delk said, according to the station.

A Six Flags employee who chose to remain anonymous told the outlet that those working Fright Fest were often transported via automobile throughout the park to maintain appearances.

"The actors were always transported in the vans because they don't want actors in makeup going through different parts of the park, so they go behind the scenes," the employee told the outlet.

"I know everyone who spent time with her, truly loved her. She really had such a team behind her at all times and brought a lot of joy to a lot of different people. I just really hope everyone is sending some good energy to Andrea's family," the employee said of Crook.

"Our hearts and our thoughts are extended to the family of the employee as well as all those impacted by this tragic automobile accident; we are heartbroken," Six Flags Over Georgia Park President Dave Zellner said in a statement, per the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “Immediate support is being provided to those affected by the accident."

Six Flags Over Georgia did not immediately responded to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
